Performing Ensembles
Beginning Band Woodwind is for first year musicians learning the flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, or tenor saxophone. Students enrolled in this class will learn the basics of woodwind technique through the performance of grade level literature. Students will have the opportunity for public performance in the fall, winter, and spring, as well as individual competitions in April.
Begging Band Brass is for first year musicians learning the trumpet, f horn, trombone, baritone, or tuba. Students enrolled in this class will learn the basics of brass technique through the performance of grade level literature. Students will have the opportunity for public performance in the fall, winter, and spring, as well as individual competitions in April.
Begging Band Percussion is for first year musicians learning the instruments of the percussion section, including the glockenspeil (bells), snare drum, bass drum, timpani, cymbals and many more. Students enrolled in this class will learn the basics of percussion technique through the performance of grade level literature. Students will have the opportunity for public performance in the fall, winter, and spring, beginner percussion ensemble (6-8 players), as well as individual competitions in April.
7th Grade Advanced Band

The 7th Grade MMS Concert Band is the youngest band Maumelle Middle School. This is the students first full band after their beginning band years where the students learn how to perform as a band. This ensemble performs in various setting and events, including the 8th grade homecoming football game, Mass Band Night, fall concert, winter concert, and spring concerts. In the spring, the band also participates in the ASBOA Region I Concert Assessment. In our short 12 year history, the Stinger Band has had great success at this contest, earning 11 superior ratings in sight reading and 9 excellent ratings on concert. Students in this ensemble also participate in individual events and competitions, including All Region Auditions and Solo and Ensemble.
8th Grade Intermediate Band

The 8th Grade MMS Stinger Band is the top performing ensemble at Maumelle Middle School. This ensemble performs in various setting and events, including the 8th grade home football games, fall concert, winter concert, and spring concerts. In the spring, the band also participates in the ASBOA Region I Concert Assessment. In our short 12 year history, the Stinger Band has had great success at this contest, earning 13 superior ratings in sight reading, 8 excellent ratings on concert, and 5 superior rating on concert. By earning a superior rating in both Sight Reading and Concert Performance, the MMS Stinger Band has earned 5 Sweepstakes Awards, the highest honor a band in Arkansas can receive. Students in this ensemble also participate in individual events and competitions, including All Region Auditions and Solo and Ensemble.
The MMS Jazz Band was formed as an after school band in 2011 under the direction of Mr. Blakemore. After two years of performing for the school and community, the Jazz Band gaining enough traction, interest, and support that Mr. Blakemore's request to add the course to the school day was accepted. In 2014, three jazz band members made the All Region Jazz Band.
The MMS Jazz Band is a small ensemble performing music from the 1920's to today in various style including swing, blues, funk, latin, funk, bossa nova, pop, rock, and many more.... The Jazz Band performs for various events throughout the community including the Maumelle Public Library Holiday Celebration Days and The Maumelle Relay for Life. The MMS Jazz Band also supports MMS by performing at the annual MMS Showcase and the MMS Academic Dinner.
